“When I grow up…” This phrase is uttered by ambitious children everywhere. Maybe one hopes to be a fireman, another a teacher, but not often do we hear children hope for the one thing that matters most to me…that they grow up with healthy habits for a lifetime.
I decided early in my career that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping children—and parents—make choices that would help them live healthy, happy lives. I enjoy watching your children grow, and I would like the opportunity to care for them from infancy to adolescence. My role, however, is different at each stage of your child’s life. Early, you and I will partner together to make the best choices for your baby. As your baby grows, he or she becomes an integral part of the team as we all work together to keep the entire family healthy.
Medicine, and Pediatrics, is changing rapidly. It is my role to provide you with the new and accurate information, and I work hard to stay on top of the advancements by reading the latest journals and attending innovative conferences. One of my particular specialties is pediatric obesity. The health problems related to obesity that are typically “adult” problems are now occurring more frequently in children. I have experience treating these complications, but more importantly, I can help you prevent these problems in your children. As your child’s pediatrician, you can rest assured that I am committed to providing the best medical care, and I am excited to join in this journey with you and your family.

Dr. Malani Kuiper
As a Salina native, I am very excited to be moving back to my hometown to practice Pediatrics! I have spent the last year in the role of Chief Resident at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. The position involved teaching residents and medical students, working with administration, staffing the impatient pediatric unit, and many more activities that have prepared me to be a thoughtful and well-informed pediatrician. I believe that every child needs a primary care physician, a physician who gets to know a patient well and has an enduring relationship with the child and family. In my opinion, a good pediatrician not only has the appropriate medical knowledge to make educated and informed decisions for their patients, but also involves the family and patient in those decisions as much as possible.
I would be honored to have the chance to meet you and to be your child's pediatrician.

Dr. Abbey Rupe
I am excited and honored to join the practice of Salina Pediatric Care!
I have known that I wanted to be a pediatrician ever since my youngest sister was born with a severe heart defect. Seeing her experience with the medical system taught me many things that help define me and how I practice. I learned the importance of a “medical home,” the importance of involving parents (and children, as they mature) in the medical decision-making process, and lastly, I learned how physicians often become part of the “extended family.”
I would be honored to meet you and become your child’s pediatrician.
